Raw and unrefined, the wall embraces bright beams of light. Although each its own singular unit, they all become united in the purely unprocessed space. Though rough, the planes are transformed by the gathering of the golden rays. The light and the surface grow into one.
Rough cast stone walls and an open ceiling perpetuate a resounding, harrowing chill. The cool air circles the space in a way that is both haunting and calming, as though mimicking the monastic Gregorian chant. This slight discomfort grounds me, and I am wholly present and aware in this place of worship. Despite the hard surfaces and external temperature, warm light shines softly throughout the chapel. An entire spectrum of color adorns the walls and ceiling, drawing the eye upward. Through the manipulation of light one is made aware of the structure’s divine purpose.
